Our Rising Mountain of E-Waste
Americans throw away more than 3 million tons of electronic devices each year. To help you understand this number, a mountain built of 10,000 empty Boeing 747s would weigh about 3 million tons. Our mountain, however, is composed mostly of computers, monitors, cell phones, mobile devices, and televisions. Every day of the year we dispose of about 142,000 computers and 416,000 mobile devices alone.
